What's happening on Tour & around campsite.
Recent Weather

The south of Australia has been through one of the worst droughts in memory but the last two months have seen some significant rain.

This has made the land recover very quickly and we expect to have some good flowers in the bush again in the spring later in the year. (September October)

Wildlife happier

The last summer was very hot toward the end and the animals were very stressed. We even had to rescue some small kangaroos after their mothers died, nursing them for a few days giving them water and then releasing them with the cooler weather.

Kangaroos were digging holes under trees and eating the roots to get water to survive. The animals were doing many things we have never seen them do before.

They are much happier and looking good since the rains.

Good Wombat News

The Southern Hairy Nosed Wombat were very hard to see in the summer as they were very careful about staying cool.

Wombats will start to show again in day light in March- April in the late afternoon.

Sea Lions
At Baird Bay the new pups were born in the last spring, they are now venturing into the lagoon a beginning to play with visitors. The experience there will continue to get better over the next 12 months.

Telescope

We have now an 8 inch computer controlled telescope at the camp. The night sky is very clear and bright at Kangaluna so we are able to use a large magnification on the telescope to view objects. Saturn, Jupiter and the moon are the favourites because of their feature.

It is a great surprise to find that it is often possible to take a photo of one of these with your small digital cameras. The shots on the photo gallery were taken with a small camera against the eye piece.
